The Challenge: Old Pine Floorboards in Need of Care
BC Stone and Floor Care received an enquiry through our website to restore pine floorboards which had been covered at a home in Thornton, Leicestershire. The on-site survey revealed scratches, dents and watermarks along with numerous gaps that needed to be filled.
The Wood Sanding and Refinishing Process: Restoring Natural Beauty
Day One: Prepping the Pine Floorboards
We began by removing all the staples from the floorboards and cleaning all joints to remove any debris. The coarse sanding stage flattened the floor and removed surface wear along with the previous finish. We started with a 40-grit abrasive and moved up to an 80-grit. Any hard-to-reach edges were carefully completed by hand. Due to the large gaps between the floorboards, we used a coloured flexi wood mastic to fill these.
Day Two: Polishing and Refinishing the Pine Floorboards
The final sanding stage involved using a 100-grit abrasive moving up to a 120-grit to smooth and polish the floor. We also water-popped the floor.
For protection and durability, we applied a two-component hard wax oil in the Naturio shade, which we had pre-sampled with the customer.
Our refinishing services for sanded wood floors include either a hard wax, hard wax oil or lacquer with various shades available.
