Revitalising the hardwood Sports Hall
Floor at Glendale Infant School in Nuneaton, Warwickshire
BC Stone and Floor Care had the opportunity to breathe new life into the Sports Hall floor at Glendale Infant School. Here’s how we brought the floor back to its best.

Step 1: Removing Metal Fittings and Preparing the Surface
To begin the restoration, we removed all the metal fittings attached to the floor for the school’s sports equipment. With the fittings removed, we thoroughly vacuumed the entire area to ensure all dry debris was cleared, creating a clean surface ready for the sanding phase.
Step 2: Sanding the Floor
The sanding process started with a Belt Sander and a 60-grit abrasive across the main floor area. This initial stage was crucial for removing the old finish and smoothing out any imperfections. We worked in sections to ensure every part of the floor was properly sanded. For the edges and corners, we used our hand-held sander with a 60-grit abrasive to get into those hard-to-reach places.

Step 3: Refining the wooden floor
Once the 60-grit sanding was complete, we moved on to the medium abrasives to create an even
smoother surface. Working through an 80-grit and then a 100-grit abrasive. The process involved working through several stages with different grits, each step designed to bring the floor closer to the ideal surface for the finishing stage.
Step 4: Priming the sports hall floorr
With the sanding complete, we applied a primer in sections to help the lacquer adhere better to the floor. This step is vital for ensuring the durability and long-lasting finish of the lacquer.
Step 5: Applying the Lacquer
For the finishing touch, we used Junckers Two-Component HP800 Sport Lacquer. This high-quality lacquer is specifically designed for sports floors, providing the durability needed to withstand heavy foot traffic and the wear and tear of sports activities. After applying the first coat, we allowed the floor to dry overnight. Once the first layer had dried, we keyed the floor to remove any grain that may have risen, ensuring the surface was smooth and ready for the second coat.
Step 6: Final Coating and Reinstallation
We applied the second coat of Junckers Two-Component HP800 Sport Lacquer, allowing it to fully dry to create a hard-wearing, glossy finish that would last for years to come. After the floor had dried completely, we reattached all the sports equipment and metal fittings to the floor, restoring the hall to its full functionality.
Conclusion: A Restored Sports Hall Floor Ready for Action
The hardwood Sports Hall floor at Glendale Infant School in Nuneaton, Warwickshire is now transformed. From removing the metal fittings to the final coat of lacquer, each step was completed with care and precision to ensure a beautiful, durable surface.
