Curious about how professional floor sanding works?

Watch our video below for a closer look at the initial preparation and sanding stages before we refinish with premium oils, stains and lacquers

Our Floor Sanding Process

We combine expert techniques with high-performance, low-dust sanding equipment to ensure a clean, efficient, and beautiful result every time. Here’s how we restored this oak kitchen floor:

Stage 1 Main Surface Sanding

Using our Bona Belt Sander, we carefully remove old finishes and level out any wear or uneven areas across the main floor. This step sets the foundation for a smooth, flawless finish.

Stage 2 Fine Sanding

Next, we switch to the Bona FlexiSand, progressing through higher grit abrasives. This step refines the surface, preparing it perfectly for the final finish.

Stage 3 Edging

Edges and corners require special attention. With our Bona Edging Sander, we sand right up to the walls and into every nook, ensuring a consistent, even finish across the entire floor.

Hardwax Oil Finishing

Once sanding was complete, we applied two coats of Hardwax Oil 2K from Overmat Industries Floorservice in the shade ‘Jalisco’. This rich, warm tone beautifully enhances the natural grain of the oak. Plus, it’s solvent-free, environmentally friendly, and completely fume-free, making it a safe and sustainable choice for any home.

To complete the look:

  • Sanded and refinished the skirting boards to match the new floor seamlessly
  • As shared on our blog, the refinished worktops now tie the whole space together beautifully

The result is a harmonious, natural and durable finish that revitalises the entire kitchen while keeping the process eco-friendly.

Why Choose Professional Floor Sanding?

Whether it’s a modern engineered floor or original floorboards, our sanding process ensures:

  • Long-lasting results – expertly prepared and finished floors withstand daily wear.

  • Eco-friendly approach – restoring rather than replacing reduces waste and environmental impact.

  • Enhanced appearance – natural wood grain is revealed and enhanced with hardwax oils for a warm, durable finish.
